Our new puppy

We had a vet appointment bright and early this morning. The vet thinks she is around six weeks old. He is running a fecal to test for things like Giardia and Coccidia (pardon me if I spelt those wrong). He preemptively dewormed her and she was given her first puppy vaccination. She looks good for her age clear eyes, shiny coat. He said some diarrhea was to be expected with all the changes in environment, food, and water. He suggested giving her some plain yoghurt or canned pumpkin with her food so I will pick both of them up at the grocery today.

Anyway here are some cute pictures! sorry for such long winded posts! We have not settled on a name yet. I think she will be "puppy" for awhile until her personality really comes out.

She is three quarters border collie and one quarter aussie. I do believe she is going to grow up to be a dog with strong opinions. Even with how young she is she definitely wants her own way. She is starting to play with toys and has already gotten the hang of sitting for cheese. I have been watching a lot of training videos and I am going to have to pick up a clicker!

It is kind of a weird story. I was not looking for a puppy. I went to a garage sale that was listed on craigslist because they mentioned in the ad that they had a couple of sewing machines for sale.

The people were out in the middle of no where and had goats, sheep, and Llama (may have been alpaca) on the property. They also had this litter of puppies they were giving away. They were saying the puppies were 8wks old (obviously not) and they had removed Mom so she could dry up.

She was the last puppy available and I ended up taking her on an impulse. Which is obviously not the best way to acquire a dog but here we are. We are not expert dog people but we are committed!

She is very cute! I would enroll her in a training program as soon as possible. You have 2 breeds that are not usually the most social, plus she has been pulled from her mother early. Wanna get a jump start on socialization and training. She is going to be SMART.

Also, have you considered getting into dog sports? She is going to be a active smart breed and would probably do great at any sport she was engaged in. Bet she would kick butt in Agility or Rally!

We have found a local obedience club that offers puppy kindergarten but she needs to have at least two sets of shots. She gets her second shot in three weeks and they have a class starting in four weeks so we have signed up for that one!

I have looked at the dog sports but I do not think I am physically capable of doing agility and I am not sure about rally.

Flyball and disc look like a lot of fun though so we are hoping to head in that direction!

Well if you have any questions about either of those sport @FailedSlacker does both disc and flyball and does them well!

Also, don't count yourself out on agility. I know @agilityk9trainer has wrote many articles about training and competing in agility when your physically limited.

So glad to hear you've got her signed up in a puppy class! You're going to have your hands full.
