good point SH. With me this is som'thing deeply ingrained. I have felt this way since I was a child, my father especially gave me a great sense of responsibility with the enviroment.
The things I do, just off the top of my head.
I recycle. Everything. I even collect containers at work and everywhere I go. I peek in trash cans for bottles.....We have a blue bin that the city collects and I sort ALL my garbage. If it can be recycled, it will be. To give you an idea of how much garbage we produce...most of my neighbors put a black can (garbage) and a blue can (recycling) out WEEKLY. I put my recycle can out every 2-3 weeks and my black can out monthly.
I don't buy "things". I have been everywhere from rich to poor to homeless to eating garbage to survive . Luckily it allowed me to shed my need for material things (it has the oposite effect on some). I do like having animals and plants. Other than that I just purchase necessities (besides my lego collection, which 75% of or more were gifts

)
I recycle rainwater. We have a rain collection system hooked up to the roof and I can gather 75 gallons at a time. I collect tires from the roadside and turn them into raised planters. I grow drought resistant plants. I grow plants that cater to wildlife. My pond caters to wildlife and I have attracted many species. I grow my own food and most of the trees I have planted are fruit trees that are climate specific.
My garden is organic. I use minerals and nitrogen as fertilizer and I also do composting. My chickens are natural pest control. My chickens will eat any table scraps I offer and whatever is inapropriate goes in the compost. Not a scrap of food goes in the trash. They also provide nitrogen needed for my compost. The eggs help keep my dogs fed.
My cars are all fuel efficient and we do not drive in excess.
I have energy star appliances and I air dry articles when possible (we have heavy winds so I can't as much as I'd like)
thats all I can think of for now, Iam sure theres more.
