so the link above is an article from the best friends website about a training program they have. they are taking rescue dogs and training them to search and rescue. i think this is such a cool thing, rescue dogs rescuing people!

Iam glad that eyes are finally opening that you don't need to spend a fortune on a pup to do this sort of task.

Gosh judging by their criteria a lot of dogs would like this

imagine too the impact on rescue when people start seeing these mutts with their SAR vests on, or even better, are rescued by one! that is part of the appeal of pure bred dogs imo, that you always see them performing these amazing tasks for us so people think that their dream dog has to be a golden retriever or a german shepherd, and they overlook mr heinz 57.....now they get to see that the annoying hyper dog with all the "behavior issues" really just needed a job to do....

THat's wonderful!!

Another project I've always liked is when they bring shelter dogs in to prisons and have the prisoners train them-I think it works wonders on both handler and dog's minds-just heartwarming
