Mods, I wasn't sure where this should go, I thought it was important enough to be in the main body of the forum.

Many of us live a life that puts us far away from the reality of terrorism. This allows up to feel safe, but also makes many of us oblivious when something does happen. No matter how safe we think our borders are there is still a possibility of another terror attack on American soil. Be aware of everything around you, and be safe this year. I just got to know and like all of you. It would suck to lose anyone here over a simple mistake.

Also, bags left unattended in a hidden place or where it seems odd, and Suspicous persons or activities.

Anyone can be a terrorist, do not judge a person simply by the way they look.

That's true-we need to -well not be paranoid-but be careful-no matter if it's terrorists or not-but just be really careful.

I was watching this movie tonight-Brothers'? and at one point with the guns I just wanted to jump up and be like 'stop think' because seriously things could happen in one second with a gun that cannot be un done

Rifles keep tucked in on your shoulder tight or you will get a bruise, and don't put your eye to close to the scope if equipped. Semi auto pistols watch out for the slide, it will take a piece of meat off your hand if you don't. Revolvers are pretty easy and straight forward. Small picture below on how to use Iron sights. Use ear protection of you will end up deaf in one ear like me, and be careful. Shooting is fun and safe when you are taught the proper way to handle a firearm.

Also, never put a bullet in the chamber until you are ready to fire, and always be aware of where your gun is pointing.

I actually have a pad for my shoulder since my gun kicks a bit.

Thanks for those stories....I can't imagine finding a grenade in the back of my truck...holy cow.

Iam naturally paranoid about things I don't recognize...so I tend to do ok.

i'm not naturally paranoid, but working at a bank sure has helped to make me more suspicious, and i've also gotten better at remembering faces too! i may not be able to stop some people from doing things, but i sure as hell can id them after!

Yes, working at a bank does have it's dangers. However, I guess there are many security bonuses there now. Terrorism is a threat to everyone these days. I don't have a gun...the laws here about owning them are very strict.

yeah...it can go both ways i suppose...lol before i started working there, i always thought that bank robberies were old west type fantasy stories... now i know better... it pays to be aware, and watchful, to me, it helps me to not stress about it too much, i will do my part, pay attention, and not freak about the stuff i can't control... i think if everyone took stuff seriously w/o freaking, it would be much better overall...

personally, guns scare me... i think lots of people who have them are smart and responsible, so i'm not a "ban all guns" type of person, but i fear the ones who are severly lacking in any sort of sense, and believe a gun will magically protect them.... i've been looking around for a firearms safety course tho, i'd like to at least understand what to do with one if i ever needed too....

We had the department of homeland security inspect us a few months ago. I have the director of this areas number in my wallet. I have even had to stop trains because of suspicion boxes. One was 2 days after 9/11 when a train reports an unattended 55 gallon drum near the tracks. Turned out to be old railroad parts, but that is how we have stepped up to the threat.

It is a twist on an old saying that I tell people about guns. If I lay one of my pistols on the ground and no-one picks it up the thing will rust solid. It is harmless by itself and the only way to prevent people from accidentally hurting others is education. No matter what we do, criminals will be able to get their hands on firearms. If a child gets ahold of a firearm the I lay the blame solely on the owner of the gun. When I was growing up, the guns were locked up and I was only able to use them if my mom was present. After I proved that I could be responsible, then I was allowed to use then without her supervision, but she always had the keys to unlock them.

wow... a 55 gallon drum... that could turn really ugly really quickly.... you know, what surprises me, is how often people are reluctant to report things bc they don't want to look foolish... i think that is a really important thing to stress to people... i would much rather take a chance of looking foolish and being safe then looking foolish for not being safe..... know what i mean?
