Anyone own a Whippet

Just been reading that the 'whippet' is the most expensive dog to keep. Which is quite a shame because I've always loved them, ever since I was younger. My grandad used to keep them, for racing I presume and we used to get to play with them in the garden whenever we visited.

I had hoped to get one this year for my kids, but didn't realise they were so expensive. ( Whippet: Most Expensive Dog Says Esure Pet Insurance )

Does anyone have one and can you tell me if they really cost that much to keep?

I had a whippet mix. He was no more expensive to keep than any other dog. They are prone to disk problems, as are many sighthounds. In fact thats what took my Sweet boy from us.
