I lost Moose today...

I know this thread is for dogs, but Moose was my beloved rat, my miniature dog, whom I miss terribly. I am so sad today. We had to put him down after taking him to the vet this morning for a tumour. At least he is better off now, but I am not and neither is his friend, Alvin. He will be lonely and depressed now.

How on earth am I going to deal with the deaths of my 4 other rats? Not to mention my doggies and birdie? I'm not used to losing pets, he was my first one. I don't know how I'm going to do this again, hopefully it won't be any time soon!

Sorry to hear about your loss. Unfortunately, many pets have much shorter lives than people, so we have to go through some pain when we lose them, but they make our lives better when they are with us and I like to think that we make their lives better too.

Just like grieving for people, all you can do is think about the good times and in time, you will find peace with it.

Best wishes,
-Mike-

Oh Pebo--Im so sorry about Moose. I know how hard it is to loose a beloved furbaby. Please know that you did a wonderful act of great kindness to ease his suffering and that he his happy and painfree. You, Alvin and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Hugs
GG

Thanks guys. Alvin seems to be doing fine, well at least it looks like it.

Tonight one of our girl rats, May, was bleeding from her vagina. We rushed her to the 24hr vet here by us (as it was late at night), and it turns out she also had a tumour but it was worse than Moose's. It was popping out of her, and she was pale and lethargic from the blood loss. It was so hard making this decision again, but if we had left it one more day the results would have been gruesome. It was the worst thing ever watching her die. I'm so sad, I feel sick. 2 rats in 3 days is too much.

So sorry - our attachments are strong regardless of the type - breed etc.. It does get easier in time to move forward. I had to put my partner down a couple of months ago. Still grieving, just when I think I am okay, I'm not. But just as with a two legged best friend, family member etc. the good times in memory help us get through it. We are the lost ones for we are left behind. They however are in a much better place. If you haven't read Rainbow Bridge please do. The best to you.
