Now she is after the other one and she is shaken with fear.

You mean she is trying to attach the other Cocker? How long have you had the GSD?

"rage in shepherds is so rare its not even funny. Also fetch with a tennis ball is also display of prey drive. Also didn't you say the cocker had attacked the gsd before? Sounds like pent up retaliation.

playing ball is not a job. These dogs need much much more. These were meant to work livestock twelve hours a day or more. I know thats not what you want to hear but playing ball doesn't even remotely come close to that. Also fetch has been known to make obsessive dogs MORE obsessive. Allowing your dogs to bicker over the ball is also bad news.

Does she live outside? How much training do you do daily? How much exercise outside her yard does she get?

But why is the GSD now going after the other dog which she said has always been submissive?

There are two minds here- what the owner sees and what the dog sees.. What the owner sees is " ohhh the dogs get along so let my guard down".. What the dog sees is " that dog is always after me- ... that dog is after me again... Here it comes again... Oh no- here it comes again... This is getting old- please stop it.. Stop it.. Stop it I say.. I SAID STOP IT!"- WITH the last event the last sentence.. To allow one dog to constantly dominant another is asking for trouble- its only a matter of time- especially when the second dog ( the shepherd) is so much bigger than the tormentor.
I am not going to hurt their memory but I know it should have been handled before hand- but there is already too much guilt here, and its after the fact, so why add more?
Also- could you please answer if you took the cocker to the vet after this happened?

There are 2 separate threads going but on one of them she did say there was no vet opened that night but she took him the next day and the vet patched him up. The dog died later that night (which was last night).

Ohhhhhhhhh Honey- first of all hugs! I am so sorry.
I have been through something like this but it wasn't dogs involved and I know how you feel. You feel angry at the other animal ( my case also a dog. A dog of mine killed a cat of mine known for years! ). I am giving you the advice my vet told me, and in time, you will accept it and it helps alot.
First understand they are animals. We can dress them up, love etc, but at heart they are animals. Gut reactions are animal in nature. And cruel as by our method of compassion and judgements, they have a their own code. Retailiation behavior however cruel in our minds, is totally normal in a dogs way of thinking.
Now- that being said- for now on the dog should not be assumed to be ever be around another ( in your case) dog that the 1st dog has ever had problems with.
And understand- your dog was acting on a instinct mode- there was no reason of " going to hurt one my owner loves" etc or other human emotions. It was an instinctual reaction of retaliation and opportunity.
I couldn't have said anything better. I'm sorry for what happened. *HUGS*

Hi, I'm back again because I don't know what to do. Last night I have contacted a GSD Rescue but did not hear from them back yet. This morning I took my little Cocker Spaniel dog to the Vet again to be cremated. What should I do with his ashes? This afternoon I've tried to advertise my GSD but didn't know what to say? I tried to find her a good home with no other animals would this work or should I tell the hole story? What should I tell the new owner? I don't want any money I just want her to find the right home. Then later in the afternoon I played with her because she layed there and looked at me so sad. I took her outsided with me and played her favorite ball game. Our other little dog I kept locked up tight inside the house. I'm afraid to let her go near her. She was so exited to play the ballgame with me and she so highly intelligent. Then I went inside the house and deleted her ads, cause I wanted to keep her and thought to myself I might be able someday to forgive her for what she has done but I will never be able to fully trust her again and other little dog I would always be afraid to let her go near her. When a dog kills another dog will they do it again? I have never been in such a situation. What I'm saying is, I don't want to give her up but my gut tells me different. What would you do?
