Exclamation Won't Let Me Cut Nails

I'm not sure if I should be worried about this, Buddy won't let us cut any of his nails. We have the special cutter... A few times we tried distracting him so he wouldn't think about it, he still won't allow it. Should I be concerned? -Will post pictures later.-

You should definitely start working on conditioning him to the clippers and you handling his paws

When he looks at the nail trimmers, click and treat. When you pick up the trimmers click treat. He sniffs the trimmers click treat. Etc

For the paws, I found it best to teach one of my dogs to shake, then I started massaging his pads then conditioned him to the nail trimmers. We do a few nails, give him some treats then do a few more and repeat

I think someone just posted this awhile ago, but I'm not sure what post it was on. Here is the counterconditioning for nail trimming.

i would be mildly concerned... it is always a good idea to work with your dog to help them to be comfortable with grooming and handling...

the easiest thing to do is to start pairing the nail trimming process with yummy treats. start by showing him the clippers, give him a few treats... do this for a day or so, until he is visibly happy/excited to see them... when this happens, let him sniff/touch them, and give treats... again, do this until you can see he is happy to see them, it may take a few days... next reach out and tap his foot with the clippers, gently, and give him treats... this step may take a while... and you may have to do some fake reaches, what you want is for him to be happy to have you reach out toward him with the clippers...

now, you also want to get him used to you handling him... pair touching his legs with treats, and work up to his feet, then his toe nails, then squeezing his toenails etc... moving slowly and pairing each touch with treats... when you have worked up to him being happy with you handling his feet, you can pair the touching with the presence of the clippers and work up to tapping his toenails with the clippers... once he is comfy with the tapping, and the toe nail squeezes, you can move up to actual clipping...

move slowly, don't push, it could take days or weeks... or even months depending on how uncomfortable he is with the handling now...
