| If your waiting until tomorrow to go to the vet-do you have benedryl at home? It's the people kind (don't use any other brand or formulation-just benedryl)
Here's a dosing chart-err on the side of caution (ie. a little less then you think you should give by the chart) but try that-it can't hurt and if it is an allergic reaction-then you might be good to go. It really sounds to me like an allergic reaction. Do not give if your dog is on any other medications at all. Dogs: Medicines, benadryl for dogs, mild tranquilizer
Be sure to use only the plain Benadryl formula. Giving benadryl with other combination of meds could be fatal, so be sure to read the box. Liquid Benadryl is too high in alcohol content to be safely used for animals. Please use capsule or pill form.
Dosage every 8 hours
Dogs under 30 lbs and Cats : 10 mg
Dogs 30-50 lbs: 25 mg
Dogs over 50 lbs: 50 mg Dogs' First Aid Kit
Benadryl 1-2mg per lb, every 8 hrs (65lb dog, 2-4 25mg tablets every 8 hrs)
----- Make sure you let the vet know what you gave (Benedryl) and how much. Also make sure your mom or dad is the one who gives it to the dog.
If you decide to try the benedryl-pills are easy to give-just put them in a bit of cream cheese or regular cheese.
Good luck and keep us posted. Also since this might be an allergic reaction check his breathing (make sure it's easy and normal)-if it's labored or raspy or irregular go to the emergency vet asap. |
