Exclamation Springer Spaniel with Hip Problems

Have 8 year old Springer Spaniel that has alot of allergy problems. However just diagnosed with hip problems. He is on deramaxx 75mg for hip problems but then he cannot take his allergy meds while on deramaxx. Is it better to stop the Deramaxx and give him glucose supplement? I have him on Natural Balance Potato and Duck formula which doesnt effect his allergies like alot of other dog food. However now I read that I should give dog food low in carbs and high in protein (i.e. not dry dog food but wet only?). If so I am so confused as to what brands would be good for hips problems but also not effect his allergies.

By allergy meds do you mean something containing a steroid? If the answer to that is yes, you can get Tramadol instead of the Deramaxx. Tramadol is an opiod derivative and not an NSAID like Deramaxx that would cause adverse effects if given with a steroid.

I would NOT mess with his food if it's dealing with his allergies to some degree.

Adding Glucosamine/Chondroitin supplements would be fine but it wouldn't give you the pain control that the Deramaxx or Tramadol would.
