Is it Safe ??

Hi everyone, im new to this forum. I have just fitted scalibor collars to each of my girls, Lady 3 yrs 10 kg, and Tobie 3 yrs 6kg, both dogs are rescued from the streets of Sitia on Crete. There seems to be a lot of ticks about this year, certainly more than last year. Is it safe to give my girls stronghold flea drops now, having just fitted their scalibor collars, or is it best to wait a while. I would welcome your opinions, thank you.

my guess would be that it is not safe to use the two products together. i would also guess that there is a warning on the packaging for either product.

We don't get a lot of ticks up here, but I have friends in tick territory who always double up on their tick protection... I don't know what they double up with, I think maybe a collar + Frontline but I'm not sure.... I would call the company of each and ask if there are any concerns, they should be able to answer that.

You can safely double up on a Preventic Collar and any of the normal flea and/or tick preventatives (Frontline, Advantage, Advantix etc) but I don't know the products listed and am being too lazy to look the ingredients up myself..

I use both scallibor collar and stronghold drops. It was recommended by our vet as scallibor is not strong enough for fleas but protects dog from mosquitoes (protection from leishmania), while drops protects from fleas and stuffs except mosquitoes. But it any cases, you can ask your vet about it.

Weve been using Advantix.II twice a month because the ticks are so severe here. I was iffy about doing it at first, but our vet assured us it would be fine. Frontline doesnt work well in this part of the country (even my vet admitted that) so thats why we use Advantix.

yes it is perfectly safe to use the Scalibor collar with Stronhold
I would avoid any permethrin based flea spot-ons with this tick collar.

The Scalibor collar won't help with fleas but and is designed for ticks + Sand Flies and Mosquitoes.
If you want a collar which does fleas and ticks you'll need the 'Seresto Flea and Tick Collar'

The active ingredient of the Scalibor is deltamethrin
The active ingredient of the Frontline is fipronil

Here is a list of the active ingredients used in the common flea treatments:
- VioVet

hope this helps
