I'm not sure if this is a health problem or not, but I've never experienced this! My 10 week old puppy was sleeping on my husband's lap and he appeared to be having a nightmare. Then all of a sudden he was peeing while sleeping!!
His next appointment is in 4 days and it hasn't happened again so maybe I'll just mention it at the next appointment. Besides that though, the potty training has been going really well! We're down to only about 1 accident a day so I'm pretty happy.
When I fostered kittens, they would do this a lot (we had a feral female in my neighborhood when I was growing up, and we would steal litters of kittens every season). I'd have 5 of them asleep on my lap, and if I forgot to put a towel down first, one of them would always pee while dreaming. I'm assuming dogs are the same.
Certainly something to investigate if it continues.
We had a beagle X boxer that would pee in his sleep if he had foods with red dye in them. We had to do elimination diets to figure it out. Did a lot of laundry figuring it out.
Obviously get problems checked first.
Any dog peeing himself while sleeping is a BIG deal and could be a major health problem
As stated-a vet visit as soon as you can is a good idea
