there are a few studies being done that suggest that neutering at that young age will negatively affect the dog's health. the main issue is the growth. IMO, shelters sorta gotta do what they gotta do, but 8 weeks is really young, and if i had a choice in the matter, i would wait... you obviously didn't have a choice, and it is silly for people to get mad at you for it, you should be congratulated for rescuing!

I see what your boyfriend sees. Its a small line from his belly button down. I believe this is left from embryological development, how the belly seals up while the animal is forming. I see this on our dogs too. I think its completely normal. I'm looking for references on the web, but can't confirm this right now!

And yes, the bump/hernia/whatever it is, is indeed just at his belly button place, and would have nothing to do with his neuter surgery.

And no, you are not over-reacting, just being a concerned and curious doggy Mom! ;-)

I feel like we kinda cheated on the rescuing part, since to me rescuing is saving a dog that otherwise no one would've wanted. He was a puppy, someone else would've taken him in the next day or so. But once he and boyfriend saw each other, there was no tearing them apart. They instantly bonded. He's perfect for us
