I'm posting this for my mother, she has a ten year old German Shepherd, Cassey.
Cassey has had very loose "cow pie" stools for nearly a year now with no real explanation from the vet. She is fed a good quality Senior dog food mixed with hamburger and rice suggested by the vet. She also receives pro biodics.
Approx. 8-9 weeks back we noticed Cassey feeling a little down and just looked like something was coming on. Around 5-6 weeks ago she started having blood in her urine, heavy bleeding & clots coming from that area etc... (She IS spayed and has been since 8mo old)
*She was taken to the vet and treated for a UTI or bladder infection with antibiotics. Within a week the bleeding stopped.
*She was x-rayed and the vet found some kind of "mass" they have no explanation for and said it could be a tumor, could be a abcess, could be bladder cancer.
*We did have our vet check for cancer cells and none we found however she suggested we send a new sample to a larger clinic for further searching to be sure and a second opinion.

Once her bleeding was stopped things were looking up, her personality and appitie picked up and she was happier than she has been this past year.

However she has been reccomended to stay on her antibiodics and have her condition treated as bladder cancer - This past week she has started bleeding again. My mother called tonight to tell me she is thinking about having Cassey put to sleep (She has arthritis in her lower back, knees, has had need surgury and has hip displacia as well as what has begun to go on however she still seems happy, loves to fetch her rope and herd her kitties around, seems OK with life over all as an aged 110 pound dog)

My mother told me tonight the bleeding is worse and none of the vets are sure what to do - mind you we live in the country and do not have "the best vets" here.

My question is if anyone has experienced something similar, can shed some light, throw out advice, ANYTHING? I'm not looking to have her diagnosed and understand its hard to know whats going on threw one quick post, anyone.... ?

Im real sorry to hear Have you contacted a specialist? It may require traveling but a year of loose stools is a bit too long IMO. I say seek out a specialist who can do an ultra sound.

*HUGS* and give some *HUGS* to your mom from Mikey and us

putting to sleep is a VERY personal decision. Some things to consider are; is the animal happy to eat, and eating well; happy to play; pain management etc. I mean, a dog could be on deaths door but happy and you may want to let them have some more days. Where as you have to be careful not to hang on due to our own fears of death...It's difficult. Although-a good thing is -we can make this decision for our pets. Which is very humane and kind.

Here are a few sites which may assist her to make the decision

I would let her go. At her age these things are just going to keep coming.
