Orange poop??

Honey's poop was orange this morning. It was slightly softer than usual, but still well formed. It was a little bit slimy.

Very occasionally, Honey's poop will have tinges of orange in pieces of it, which my vet said was from digesting too fast. But this morning it was all the same color. It wasn't deep orange - it was light brown with a light orange hue, sort of.

I'm trying not to freak out. I'm waiting for the vet's office to call me back, so in the mean time I'm wondering what could have caused this?

No change in diet (although she did just start a new bag of food). Yesterday there was a thunderstorm while I was at work and when I got home (about an hour later) she was very upset - panting and whimpering. She breathed rapidly for about an hour afterwards, but her temperature was normal, and once she calmed down, nothing else was out of sorts.

Earlier this week it was very hot, and she was somewhat exercise intolerant. I attributed it to the heat and humidity (very humid)! I was somewhat concerned that she got hot so quickly, but she is a black dog, the sun was strong, and she has always been more heat intolerant than other dogs I've had.

Laos, she was slightly slower than usual on our walk this morning, and it wasn't hot - it was about 60 degrees and drizzling.

Do you think this could be from the stress of the storm yesterday, or could something more sinister be going on here? All I have read about orange poop says it's a sign of liver problems, anemia, or "nothing"...

Anyone seen orange poop before?

Leaving aside what pureed pumpkin does to poop (let's just say I'm really not into pumpkin pie anymore), my informal, nonscientific observations have been that stress of any kind- fear, heat, etc.- can lead to poop that is oddly coloured and/or differently textured.

Thanks for the input - I agree with you about stress. We moved a few weeks ago and her poop was definitely affected - I've just never seen the orange before.

The vet said to keep an eye on it because it could be stomach upset (just over the phone; we didn't go in). If it happens again, they said to call back. But I just had her out and she had a normal poop, so hopefully it was just stress from yesterday. It's much colder today and she was very feisty when we were out. I took her to the dog run and she ran around like a lunatic ...so I'm feeling a bit better about her at the moment.

Still wonder about the orange color though - it's very odd to me.

I usually think it's either from something the dog ate that was that particular color or stress changing GI motility and digestion.

carrots?

When I give my dog baby carrots he sometimes has orangy stool. Not to be a yuk but did you smell it,I think that the smell will tell all, if it's normal as normal as poop can be he's fine but when it smells wrong he might have eaten something that caused it. Not to worry he's fine today

It's probably just stress or something she ate. My dogs' poop is orangey when they have a lot of pumpkin, sweet potatoes or carrots.
