| New Adopted dog, no poop for 2 days. HELP we adopted Joe-E a maltese/ mini poodle mix on saturday. I know that stress can induce constipation but he has not had a bowel movement in 2 days. We adopted him the same day he was brought to the adoption agency and the agency was unsure of what food he was on at home. They gave me some food that he was on just for 1 day to mix into the food i have for my other. So he potentially may have been changed food 2 times in 2 days.
Is it normal for him not have a bowel movement yet? he doesnt seem to be straining, i have not seen him get into the "pooping position".
At what point (how many days) should I consult a vet? could this be a problem other than stress? |

| Is he hydrated? Does he have water? Stress can make a dog refuse food and water. Take a pinch of his skin on the back of his neck, then release it. If it quickly falls back into place, he is hydrated, if it kinda stays in place he needs water. In a pinch we have used 7-up, spoon fed, til we could get the animal to a vet. Do this test pretty quick please. |

| He is hydrated. He is drinking plenty of water, he's not eating much of his food today. other than the no poop he seems perfectly happy. |

| perhaps take him around where other dogs poop? That will often trigger it...also som' dogs don't like to be watched and will hold it
Congrats on your rescue btw and welcome |

| I'd give it maybe one more day-he went through a big change -losing a home and gaining one-plus likely a change in food. So he might just not be eating enough to have his GI tract moving. See if you can entice him to eat (so long as he doesn't throw up-if he does-vet time), do some walks (Exercise stimulates the GI tract) and yeah-totally walk him aruond a park where other dogs have done their business-that's a great 'stimulant'

| Hopefully, with more adoration and love, he will explode, if you know what I mean.
I'd also like to just add, being a new dog, you might want to check his poop for worms. I'm not saying the adoption agency wasn't worming him, but, it's better to be sure with our pets, than to not know... |

| Success Joe-E had a good bowel movement today
looks like he needed some time to adjust to his surrounds
Thanks for all the help and advice!
I am taking him to the vet later this week to make sure all is good with him
I am open to any other advice regarding dog adoption and how to better adjust him thanks again |

| just keep it simple and routine for the first few weeks...many people get a new dog and start taking him everywhere! I'd let him settle in first....come up with a schedual, so he can learn to predict whats next and whats expected of him...he'll be less stressed and confused if he knows whats next. |
