I have an american black and tan dog and she is around the due date for puppies. She was swollen up real big and now she has this bloody discharge coming out of her uh huh. Im afraid something is wrong. She also has milk coming out of her nipples but she looks like she has just shrunk. She was so big and fat but now she is smaller. i know she hasnt had any bc i keep my eye on her all the time. any advise would greatly help me and info about the bloody discharge she is having. Take her to the vet, she needs to be seen and they will tell you what is going on with her. She could be having trouble delivering the puppies and she could die along with all the puppies. Sorry if this isn't what you wanted to hear but this isn't something to mess around with.

Most of the members here spay and neuter all their dogs so I'm not sure if anyone can answer your questions from personal experience. I think the only person who could tell you what exactly would cause that is a vet so you should atleast call your vet or any vet and tell them what's happening. I really do hope your dog and her puppies will be fine.

Because you appear to be inexperienced in whelping, I would second the suggestion of a vet visit - better safe than sorry. Have you done any reading on the whelping process?
How many days has it been since she was bred? How long has she had the discharge? Is it pinkish, reddish or brown blood? Has she shown any signs of distress? Is there an odor to the discharge?
Many dogs/cats will have some "bloody show" prior to delivery - it should not have a foul odor and should be pinkish mixed with mucous. Beyond that, because of your inexperience, I don't feel it would be responsible to provide information you may try to put in place of the medical care you should seek for her.

I'm really late on this, but if she's in labor and you waited any longer than 2 hours, the pups may not make it (and neither may mom).

This may sound like a very silly question but do you know for sure that she was bred or are you assuming she is pregnant based on her appearance and behavior?

Either way, this is an emergency and I hope she was seen ASAP.

So sorry to hear about that! Glad she's okay though-- that's the most important thing and hopefully never has to go through that ordeal again.

I'm sorry that she had to go through that ordeal and that the puppies didn't make it but I have to ask...Was she spayed during the proceedure? I really hope so but at any rate, I'm very glad you got her into the Vet on time and that she is going to be ok.
Maybe, once she is well on the road to recovery, you could post some pics of her?
Thanks for letting us know. Many times, people come here in similar situations and never give us an update on the dog's condition.
