Jayda is refusing to drink any water! :(

Yesterday Jayda refused to drink any water and didn't poo at all! Any ideas on getting her to drink some water. Anything I can add to the water to make it more appealing. I tried adding sugar in her water this morning but she wouldn't touch it. I'm calling the vet again today. Jayda is eating and hasn't vomited since the vet, but i'm worried about her not drinking and not going poo. Do you think I should have her tested for parvo. She is not lethargic at this point, but maybe it's still a possibility?

When I brought my first rescue home, he wouldn't drink water. I tried everything and I was getting VERY desperate! Someone suggested giving him an ice cube. He loves them! That got him back on track....those and water from a Brita water filter pitcher.

He still begs for an ice cube when I go to the freezer.

The parvo test is easy (recal swab) and relatively cheap (i paid about 60$) so if it will ease your mind go for it.

I was going to sugest pedialyte. But I like the ice cube idea better!

I'd test for parvo just in case

Icecubes work
pedialyte can be added to water, as well as regular apple juice (100% no junk juice) or milk if the dog handles dairy-personally my dogs love a little watered down skim milk

Is your dog eating? If not-I'd go back to the vet as soon as you can. If your dog is eating-how bout wetting the food to get some water down? Just add some water, maybe small bit of butter or oil and heat up until it's warm-stir it around and feed

I started putting water in with her chicken and rice and she drinks/eats it up

Also I took her to the vet again today and tested her for parvo just to be sure. She tested negative so that is great. The vet felt her and said she didn't feel constipated at all and to just give her a day or two and she should have a bowel movement. Also she had a few patchy areas that I was treating with ringworm topical. I had the vet check them out and she took a skin scrape sample from the infected areas and found out she has mites As gross as mites may be, I must say I am actually somewhat relieved it's not ringworm. It took me 4-5 months to get rid of ringworm last time it was in my house! The vet said the mites were species specific so humans couldn't get them. I was wondering if Jaxon my cat could catch them though? I sure hope not. I have been keeping Jayda seperate anyways since I thought she had ringworm.

Gotcha...well if its demodectic mange, your other pets are 100% safe...if its Sarcoptic then its very contagious, but demo is way more common, especially since shes a puppy.

I didn't even notice any patchy spots on her. It can't be too bad.

I'm not a big fan of milk for humans or pets... unless they are babies of course and need it. Although I finally got her to drink some water by putting it in with her food! Thanks though, and she has medicine for the mites so I'm not too worried about that. I just wish she would go to the bathroom soon!
