How To Remove A Skin Tag

My dog has a fairly large skin tag under his neck, which is always getting irritated from putting on his leash , to brushing him. I am wondering if anyone has ever managed to remove a skin tag from their dog.

I have read on the internet that you can tie them off to cut off circulation. Has anyone ever done this. Do you think it would be uncomfortable for my dog if i did that. His skin tag is rather odd shaped, and close to the skin so i actually think it might be hard to get a piece of dental floss around it.

I really do not want to have this removed by the vet if i can avoid that

any suggestions or information would be so appreciated

thank you so much

I wouldn't advise doing it yourself, especially on the neck and if you say it's close to the skin. There's an awful lot of important structures in the neck that I don't think should be messed around with. And yes, it would be uncomfortable and could cause more issues potentially in the long run (necrosis, infection etc).

Why do you not want it removed by the vet?

If your dog is healthy, both exam and bloodwork, and your vet uses a lot of precautions when sedating or anesthetizing animals, then the risks are minimal. Yes, unfortunately things do happen, but it is very rare and if at the hospital, they can do everything in their power to reverse what is happening.

Depending on the size of the skin tag and the vet, he may just need some mild sedation instead of being fully anesthetized.

Ditto Holly. Talk with your vet as sometimes they don't have to sedate to remove it.
