Emmy's Surgery

Here are a couple pics taken now after I got home with her and her e-collar.

You can't see how bloodshot her eyes are though, they are sooo droopy and she almost fell over a few times trying to turn her head .

Her surgery went well. The acepromazine we gave her before we felt like it wasn't a good mix with her body, she took a long time to wake up.

She had 4 lumps removed and got 200 SQ fluids since she didn't drink a whole lot of water yesterday and of course was fasted no food/h2o for today.

When she woke up in her kennel she was flopping around a bit while waking up and it looked like some of her sutures were loosening so we put some glue to hold them together but the next time I checked on her, the sutures popped open all the way on her front left forearm (where we glued) so she had to get re-sutured, we didn't put her back under though.

Now, she is sitting on some blankets in my parents family room whining and 1/2 sleeping. so I just gave her some pain meds in case. the meds the Dr. prescribed for me can make her kinda groggy which I want so she doesn't move around too much.

I just noticed she keeps whining, but when I look at her she abruptly stops. LOL! I think she wants attention and to be babied. Poor baby

She does look tired. Poor thing, probably way too uncomfortable for her. I hope the pain meds is able to ease her pain. Of course TLC from you would be highly appreciated lol...yep, I think she just wants you to be with her :-) I hope she gets well soon!

I took the e-collar off yesterday when she refused to go to the bathroom with it on. and after I have literally stayed in the same room with her to keep an eye on her and occasionally check her sutures. when i leave the room to like get something to eat or go to the bathroom or something i make my mom watch her till i get back. she has been very good and knows she has to just stay on her blankets and not leave them unless i allow her to. and when I do she is on a short leash :P Ohh, and when she goes to VA, when I am gone for school or errands, she is getting the 'cone of shame' on whether she likes it or not! haha.

every time i sit down next to her or lie down next to her, she automatically puts her head on my lap, chest or stomach and sleeps like that :P I think you are right bullseye i fell asleep on the floor next to her last night but the blankets weren't enough on top of the wood floor and my back was killing me after a while so i moved to the couch and draped my comforter over the edge of the couch for Emmy and she crawled her front half of her body under the comfies to sleep, lol.

she ate well yesterday w/o throwing up and same with this morning just now. When I took her out to go to the bathroom she just tried to roll and rub herself on the grass to itch herself so i just brought her back in.

poor baby, the idea of the sutures ripping open made me cringe! LOL

are they going to biopsy the masses or do you already know what they were?

since I already know she had mast cell tumor, I didn't send them out. The surgeon, after she removed them, cut them open and thought the one on the side of her face could poss. be cancerous, but of course you can't make a true diagnosis of what kinda cancer it is without sending it in. The others looked ok. the only other one that looked kinda funny was one on her right front leg, it was a benign looking lump growing IN the skin instead of under it. The dr. said she has never seen anything like that before. I just joked, "well my dog IS weird and different" and she laughed, but the one on her ear looked like a zit almost and the one on her abdomen was fatty.

I always hate seeing my pets right after surgery. It is like they are looking at me and saying, "why would you do this to me."

So glad to hear Emmy got through it OK.

When Minnie got a tumor removed she wasn't stitched up well enough and bled all over the waiting room floor.

Glad to hear that Emmy is doing well, even if a little sad. Are you going to have the iffy tumors sent away just in case?
