We've had Kai (11mths) since July'09 and recently brought Max (5 1/2mths) in Feb'10.
Kai is a dalmation x german shepherd, Max is a Jack Russell X.
From the start they have always got on, played together, sleep together etc. They both had seperate bowls but kept eating out of each others so we changed to 1 large bowl which seemed to work ok. Kai, being a large dog is still on puppy food so both dogs eat the same. They're on dry large puppy food as the lady in the shop advised for Kai's needs and said anything in the food that Max didnt need he would discard through excretion.
We have noticed Max may be smaller and younger but he seems to be more dominant. In the sense that he has to have attention if Kai is getting it, he has to be the 1st one to say hello, if he gets a food wrapper that the kids have dropped or a treat (bone or something) he will growl at Kai, even though Kai wouldnt take it, hes just sniffing to see what Max has kinda thing. could be the 'small dog syndrome' Jacks tend to have! They still get on well though.
We thought that maybe this could be the reason Kai doesnt seem to be eating so we've reverted back to their own bowls to monitor who is eating what, also left Kais in the kitchen where he has always eaten and moved Maxs into the hallway. They dont get human food treats and scraps either, never have done.
Kai still doesnt seem all that interested, we tried mixing a bit of gravy in and he ate a 3rd of his meal, i keep offering his food and he just looks at me blankly. I'm gonna get some dog meat to mix in to try and coax him and my other half is gonna take him for a check up at the vets next week on his day off, is there anything else that I could try in the mean time?
