Do you think it would be better?

Our Dog, Delilah, just recently went to the vet and we learned she has a large tumor near her heart. The vet's say its a 30-50% chance that the treatment will work.

They said are our options are:

A) Perform surgery and if she doesn't get better, put her to sleep
or
B) Put her to sleep now.

We have been considering putting Samson(Her companion) down as well. His heart rate has been a lot slower now, he only gets up to go outside or eat. Otherwise, he just lays down.

Should we put both of them to sleep for the best of it or is there another option we can consider?

Hmmm a tumor near the heart is very risky. And then your dog would still take a long time to heal if it did work, and I imagine it would be painful. How old is you dog. I think it would be better to put both of them to sleep, but I don't know. I'll wait for other people to post. Keep us updated!

Has your other dog been seen by a vet to have bloodwork ran to rule out any diseases before putting him down?

How old is the dog with the tumor?

Both dogs are 14 years old.

Yes. He is disease free. See, Samson and Delilah are brother and sister. One time, we had to put Delilah in the vet and Samson cried all day and all night EVEN when we brought a friend over to play.

We've decided to just put both of the dogs down. The vet office isn't open till 2pm tomorrow(Their office hours are usually from 2pm-10pm but vets are always on duty for emergencies) and I'm working during that time so I'm leaving to go drop them off in about a few minutes.

Daughters have already started to beg for a puppy :P

I am so sorry for the difficult decision you had to make, but know they both are together now and probably happy and playing like pups now in Rainbow Bridge (pet heaven)

hugs

Thanks everyone. Our whole family is grieving. Especially Maggie. Delilah was such a joy to her when she was younger and now that Delilah is gone, she's not for sure if she wants another dog.

But the rest of the family wants to get a Puppy. I'm kind of torn in between.

Ah yes. Pet Heaven. My parents always explained that there was a Pet Heaven and all the dogs romped and played like puppies.
