there are other behavior things that point to being isolated during the critical learning periods (like a young puppy in a cage) toys and other dogs do not exist to her. She will look through them like they aren't there. Most dogs that grow up...that were taken too young from mom and then isolated... behave this way.

god Iam searching the web researching this and all I can find are people saying that people who give this drug to their pets are cruel and ignoring their dogs...wow.

I just want her obsession to go away, training, diet and exercise have failed.

som' of my other dogs have anxiety but nothing that training can't fix. Lets just put it this way...its been over two years and she knows "sit"....I have tried teaching her other things and she acts incapable of retaining things, which points to her being overthreshold...constantly...thats no way to live
I really feel for you and Critter..
having been involved in mill dogs and knowing the isolation & neglect they suffer before being rescued and the trauma it does to them after they are finally free of the nightmare of cages, constant breeding and no interaction with man or beast otherwise.
I commend you for taking on such a heartbreaking task with Critter, I've been there and know how hopeless it sometimes feels when they just don't come around.
As far as what any website posts relating to giving her medication in a negative sense..Some people have never been there, they don't know the first thing about dealing with a dog or any other animal that is basically terrified of life.
If the medication helps her that will be great for both of you, hopefully it will and she can live out the rest of her days with peace and happiness instead of the fear that controls her.

Good Luck!

Thank you so much.

thats a great way to put it...terrified of life. I just want her to be comfortable since I know there is not much of it left.

this made me feel sad. I hope it winds up being benign.

I'm so happy Critter has you for a mom. She's too scared to know it but she's an extremely lucky little girl. I hope the Prozac works a miracle for her and she can enjoy her remaining time instead of being terrified all the time.

so i was just searching around for any good info on prozac for dogs...nothing! everything is either making fun, saying that it is now available, or some kind of sales add. sometimes the internet is so annoying!

yeah I was really disapointed...thats all I found as well.

i did find lots of people saying they wanted to use it to treat "aggression" and som' of the things decribed were pretty simple fixes...

lots of "my dog thinks its alpha and tries to bite me sO I want to give it prozac" type stories

so tonight she began to panic like she does when the clicker is out...but we were just watching tv...nothing *scary* around...she went to the door and began to scratch at it and throw herself at it bodily(which is a new behavior btw) so I let her outside...

Critter HATES being outside...usually after thirty seconds she barks to be let back in...

she never barked and about ten minutes passed...I opened the door and called her and she wouldn't come...I had to walk around in the dark looking for her...I honestly thought she must have been stolen because she NEVER leaves the driveway, and always runs for the door when it opens

I found her laying down under a tree shaking/panting...when I aproached her she ran away

shes inside now and seems to be "normal" (her version of normal) but Iam pretty alarmed...its too soon for this to be the meds...so probably from the stress of going to the vet yesterday.... I don't know what the heck is going on...Iam afraid if I take her to the vet she'll stress herself to death. When we got into the house I tried to pick her up and I thought for a moment I was going to get bitten (new as well) she freaked out and started swatting me with her feet and pulling away. She normally LOVES being picked up and has never reacted this way.

Iam begining to wonder if euthanizing her will be more humane than letting her exist like this. I brought the idea up to my husband a month ago and he would hear none of it. He keeps saying shes "fine" and "she'll let you know when its time" (I HATE that saying) but I wonder if this is her letting me know.

I hope you don't mind an opinion... I don't know much about Critter, if there is more would you mind sharing? I think I may have missed out on when and where you got her, what happened to her, etc etc. When I worked in a kennel I used to come across dogs who were sooooo scared, I am sure she gets it already that you are there to help her but maybe lock everyone else up somewhere and just sit quietly on the floor with some treats and wait for her to come out, stay silent and whatnot and just give her treats or food and pet her, no words, no clicker, no other dogs, nothing... I used to do this in the playroom with scared dogs during private playtime for 30 mins and they wound up being sooooooo calm and ate their dinner (if they weren't eating before which is normal), etc.
