well since this falls into the "wow sure didn't need that money" I'll put it here too.

Emma has basically a "busted" mouth. The vet said that leaving the broken teeth was fine as long as she ate/behaved normal.

all the insisors have now fallen out on their own. The two bottom canines had become discolored recently, so I took her to my new vet for a second opinion. As it looked like "time" to take them out.

He agrees, and one of them is in the early early stages of infection and is actually loose...so iam glad I went.

He also thinks shes closer to 7-8 years old than the 8-10 I thought. Which is nice.

So shes on clavamox and will have them out next week. This office keeps them overnight for ALL procedures that knocks them out...Its going to be hard to not have her a whole day...when they kept Critter it was no big deal because shes a day sleeper LOL

he also jokingly said I can get the remaining canines capped @ $1200 a tooth!! I said, uh no, and he laughed and said he figured I'd say that.

all and all about $500 for the dental, the extractions and her bloodwork. So ramen for me this week

just the front guys are broken. The four canines were all broken in half and the insisors were worndown/ or chipped. Its pretty knarly actually. I'll get a photo when I get home if people are interested.

Iam hoping with all the side/back teeth still in, her tongue wont hang out. I know alot of toothless dogs have tongue problems, which is part of the reason I was relieved when they originally said it was ok to keep the teeth.

can you imagine her with gold caps

Iam not technically broke now, but I really shouldn't buy anything frivolous for a paycheck or two now.

Poor Emma! I would feel weird without Kimber or Kelsey here for an entire night. Even when I occasionally take them for a bath at PetSmart it is so weird with out them.

How is this going to effect her eating?

it will probably stay the same. She already eats like an old woman. Shes boring as all get out to train with shaping games because you typically reward every couple seconds, the dog eats the kibble and you move on...with her its Reward...chew....chew...chew...chew... before we can move on...if I use jerky or soft treats they get stuck in her lip and she justs stands there smacking her lips (forever) trying to get it out. She actually almost choked on a pigs ear once and luckily I was right there to pull it out of her throat.

Kelsey is annoying too with treats. She wants to sniff for 5 seconds before she takes it. Even when I give her the same treat over and over again.

Oh, Chili has started spitting out treats. I used to use just his regular kibble but lately hes been taking them and then dropping them on the ground. So I have been using cat kibble and a different brand of dog kibble as treats...

I still had som' in my bait bag because the others still work for them, and yesterday I handed him one and he dropped it and looked at me disapointed and I was like "oh Opps! Sorry bud!" and found a different one.

problem child.
