A bad day for a very good dog :(....Osteosarcoma

Well we had some medical exams for our newest add Ares. It came out that he has what called Osteosarcoma. The vet said that the treatment includes surgery to remove the primary tumor and then chemotherapy.

I am so sad!! The vet said that about 10% live after 3 years...so that's a hope but he already is so skinny and not in the best condition he could be.
The vet will do some research for the latest possible treatments for after the surgery.

I can't hold my tears. I was so happy when we brought him home. My father had already seen some lameness in the affected leg but he was hoping to be some injury from when he was a stray.

I'm sorry I don't know what else can I say.

Do you know anything about it? Anything that could help? Do you know cases that made it through this? (I am just looking for some hope cause the vet was very reserved)

I think I remember a dog I knew who had something similar, they removed the whole leg and he lived several more years, though towards the end more cancer caught up with him, also he was was a few years younger than Ares at the time of the leg removal and wasn't malnourished, but you still should have hope that Ares can make it through this! I also know a few dogs that have had cancer and gone through chemotherapy and are living a few years later still. Though chemo is hard on the dog and very intensive, I hope you have good luck!!

hugs!

Thank you all! Yeah it's been quite hard lately and I was hoping to get away with my trip in US but I will postpone it for a while to see how Ares will go with the surgery.

Monday is set for Ares surgery! *Fingers crossed* and hopes that after that he will have more chances

I feel so attached to this dog! The vet gives him 3 years but you know when I had cancer the doctors gave me 2 years and now I'm still here strong and healthy. I wish I could blow him some magic and take away his pain.

I don't want to give you false hope but Mandy was to get two MONTHS to two YEARS. It's been over three years.
They are waiting to put her in the journals-she's their miracle-they call every month for three years! Don't rely on estimates-for Mandy it could have been less or more then they quoted-no one really knows
