I can only do about 3 swipes with my Rascal (Sheltie Pomeranian mix) and he growls at me. It does seem to just rip his hair out by the roots in addition to the loose hair.

Just don't overbrush with it. I brushed my cat with it nearly every day for a week because she's such a bad shedder (it pulled out tons of hair every day) and she ended up nearly bald with a bit of a rash on her spine due to overstimulation/irritation! Works a little too well if you're not careful.

I have the furminator (and other brushes and dremmels and nail clippers) for my bunnies-I can't even find a tool I don't have
