Bathing your dog is neccessary. But not often,if you bath yor dog once every few weeks then this will cause bad skin conditions if their skin is constantly being put in contact with water.Although if you bathe your dog once every few months then no harm should be done. It also depends on where your dog sleeps, whether your dog is a part time inside dog part time outside dog, full time outside dog or full time inside dog.It also depends on whether your dog sleeps in your bedroom,or elsewhere.Large dogs need to be bathed, they have a "big dog smell" smaller dogs don't carry the same whiffy smell as some large dogs do.If you bathe your dog to rid them of fleas then try bathing them then when they are dry,use some advantage.I hope I helped.Your mum is right,it is neccessary to bathe your dog!!

When we had our two outdoor dogs (large fenced years and doggie door giving them access to the Garage as a dog house), we bathed them only a couple times per year. In early summer and again in late fall we'd take them to the lake and bath them there. They loved it and it was really all they needed. We did brush them a couple times a week and much more when they were blowing their coats. Both lived to rip old ages for their breeds.

Radar and Pierre, our two indoor boys, get baths every couple months, unless they get really dirty for some reason (ie: rolling in something stinky or playing in the mud) and combed 3 or four times a week. Neither shed, which is wonderful!

We Have 2 Big Dogs & a Small Dog! & We Bath All 3 Whenever They Need To Be Bathed Really! We Also Go By If They Stink,Or Look Dirty (Feel Dirty,Type Of Thing)...Lemay (Small Dog) Usually Gets Bathed About Once Every Month Or So (Give Or Take). And The Bigger Dogs About Every 2 Months Or So (Give Or Take)...So It's All Up To You & Your Preference,Like Everyone Said!

ALL dogs can get the "dog smell" it all depends on hygene of the dog, food they are being fed, living conditions ect. My big dog doesnt smell. as he is bathed and cleaned up regularly. His buddy smells terrible as he is not bathed and cleaned up (also fed science diet junk, which probably adds to the smell) My dog gets the whole bath, and blow dry treatment,t akes me almost 2 hours to bath and dry him, his skin is awsome and not dry at all.

over bathing and not knowing how to wash a dog is what causes issues. youd be surprised how many people really lack at bathing their dogs properly and getting all the soap out.

My dog is long haired, white and tiny. He manages to get some dirt on him nearly every day and get stinky rather quickly. I brush him every day but it's not always enough. I have had him for 3 weeks and he has gotten 2 baths so far. seems to be doing okay, although he doesn't seem to like it much...

I didn't mean that small dogs don't get the same smell,I mean that larger dogs often smell more strongly than smaller dogs. They smell dirtier.Depends fully on what they have been in contact with

Tonka and Chloe get bathed when they start to smell like dogs again. Usually about once a month. Of course the big driver for this is them sleeping in my bed...dirty dogs not allowed.

Oh, and I use Pantene Pro-V on them (it's my brand). Have had no drying or other issues from this...

I usually buy baby shampoo for my pets... I like the L'Oreal Kids variety 'cause it smells yummy and it's not itchy when it gets in the eyes...

monty gets bathed every two months roughly. his coat is nice and glossy. my nanny's border collie, holly, never gets bathed with shampoo. she gets washed with water whenever she rolls in fox poo, which isn't that often. her coat is STUNNING! so glossy because the natural oils in it have not been hindered.

i DO think you can bath them too often. it's just my personal opinion, that because dogs are animals, and would otherwise NEVER get bathed with shampoo, it should be done as little as possible (although rinsing with water is natural and fine)

i use a puppy de-odourizing shampoo on both my boys. they're long haired dogs (aussies) and the shampoo keeps them smelling neutral. it's wonderful! i sometimes combine it with a dry shampoo which adds a nice smell on top of the de-odourizing effect of the wet shampoo.
