Sedation for a nail trim?

Has anyone ever heard of or had their dog sedated in order to trim their nails? Kelsey's nails are so long!! I have tried giving her treats but she wants nothing to do with it. She lets me hold her paw and play with her nails with MY HAND but if the clippers are in my hand she starts pulling away and I don't want to hurt her. We have the pedi paw and I was able to do one nail for about 10 seconds while my husband held her and talked to her and his daughter fed her treats. I just don't know what else to do. I was reading online about people that take their dog to the vet about every 6 weeks for a mild sedation so the nails can be done.

Man you are busy with just two dogs.. LOL>. Yes there is sedation, but why? do you need to cut the quick back? Maybe just learn how to do nails with a dremmel. Pedipaws is basically useless.. Its noisy and takes off nothing... Get a dremmel mini. They are great! ( thats what I use. )
By the way the heart is a muscle and any anethesia or sedation is risky on the heart as the heart is a muscle. I doubt you would take such a risk when its easy enough to train the dog with a dremmel.

Well Kimber is new LoL so he has a lot to learn. Kelsey doesn't really give me any problems at all just with her nails. The groomers won't do them anymore...she isn't aggressive or anything just difficult so I told them not to bother. So we bought a pedi paw and a nail trimmer but she DOES NOT want her nails done.

Here is a picture from 2 weeks ago.

baloney- I can tell you how.. you live in maryland.. shoot- get out of the flooding and come down I can show you.. That silly to sedate a dog for that. Sedation is a serious risk and not to be taken lightly..

Give them peanut butter! Takes forever to lick off. Tasha will let me do her nails if I put her in a stay first, or if she's had a HUGE walk and is tired... or when I give her peanut butter, lol.

LoL Flooded and still raining....

I agree it is silly I don't think I would actually do it just curious what others thought. Well I don't know they are getting so out of control.

Amanda, what does the peanut butter do?

Does she pull away if she is tired or does she just let you do it? I may try tomorrow to take her for a bike ride and then try.

I will make a video how to do it. I only use the cordless dremel mini- its wonderful!
Right now I have no participants- Zubin and lindse went to bed and Nina is still down here with us but Zubin is the one I could do his nail. But I promise- by 10am I will have a video posted. I promise. He went to bed and I never wake " a sleeping dog" .. But I would never sedate unless its life or death.. too many risks.
