My dog smells like dirty socks??

I'm not sure what's going on. I have a 5 month old lab/collie mix. Recently he's been smelling like dirty socks. It around his crate, its him. Next to him sleeps a weiner dog. I scrubbed both crates, dogs got a bath, cleaned the carpet... Smell went away for a few hours than bam.. next morning he smells again.

Help???

What are you feeding? I know that many dogs have a harmless yeast on their feet if there is too much moisture (smells like fritos), but it usually isn't that pungent.

Is it coming from his ears?

edit:
Try to figure out where the smell is most strong:
Is it coming from the "back side" area? Smell similar to rotten fish?
(see seebrown's post for feet)

yeah... definitely check his ears... is he doing anything like shaking his head a lot? and again, what are you feeding? it could be a food allergy issue, but first, you need to determine where its coming from!

It's definitely the exact smell of dirty socks. Lol. Like, wet, been warn all day just took the shoe off dirty socks. It's not his ears, or his feet..

However, his skin has started to get really oily... Really quick. And its coming from his fur for sure. My boyfriend leaves his cheap dog food out for a free for all for his dogs. I feed mine Nutro.. and I only feed him 3x a day. Naturally he is going for the food sitting out too. I'm guessing its this.

After thinking about the only "change" to the routine.. this would be the conclusion I've come up with.

My pup had really nappy dry hair when I first got him, and I've noticed some foods just don't agree with him. But the Nutro seems great for him...

I'll start getting all the dogs on the same feeding schedule and/or food. See if this makes him smell like a CLEAN sock.

Is the oiliness pretty pungent and forming crusts anywhere? Does his skin look slightly inflamed? He could have celiac's disease, which is just an allergy to wheat.

sounds like yeast. It makes the skin and ears smell like dirty socks. I would go to a grain free diet and see if it makes a difference. The only one I know of that does not contain potato is the van patten duck and garbanzo bean
L.I.D. Limited Ingredient Diets Legume & Duck Meal Dry Dog Formula - **** Van Patten's Natural Balance Pet Foods, Inc.

Eating These Foods Can Cause Dog Yeast Infection
