How Often Do You Bathe Your Dog?

This is a discussion on How Often Do You Bathe Your Dog? within the Dog Grooming forums, part of the Keeping and Caring for Dogs category; I heard for most dogs that they shouldn't be bathed less than 6 weeks apart, it can dry them out too much....

^^ Yes you really have to do what works for your dog. If their coat is oily and they smell-bath time. But if their skin is drying out and flaky -use the no bath wipes

Totally agree. I wish I could bathe Cannon more; he gets smelly so fast. But he already has itchy, flaky skin. Min pins are supposed to be bathed like once every 3 months, but I'm thinking I'll have to bathe him once a month. Wipes just don't work too well. Peeu!

Hmmm the wipes don't work for you? They do sell deodorizing powders and even doggy cologne -may be worth a shot Though I suspect it would be the same as human cologne-the guy still stinks but also smells spicy LOL

Haha, no, he's a stinky boy. Wipes don't do much, and, with all his allergy/skin problems, I don't think doggy cologne would be a good idea. I think I'll try a wash cloth bath next time though.

Cornstarch might work-unless he has an allergy to corn? You just puff it on them and then brush it out-it pulls all the dirt and oil off like a wet shampoo

Not sure about a corn allergy. I'll have to try that. I think he got the hot spot from the last bath I gave him. I realized today that the hot spot showed up after the bath. I used an oatmeal shampoo that I don't think his skin liked.

Eh...oatmeal should be nice.

You *can* use baby shampoo -might be worth a try someday

I bathe my dog once every week. Is a bath every week too many times? But i can't help it..My dog is a white poodle. Its fur gets dirty quite easily as a result..

I don't think it's a problem unless your dog is itching/scratching/seems uncomfortable or has a lot of dry, flaky skin. I'd bathe Cannon every 2 weeks if I wasn't worried about his skin. For such a feisty dog, he sure is sensitive.
