I know there are some people who do not like the Furminator and say it can damage the coat (which it can if you use it too much--I think there is even a warning on the package or something), but I only use it for about 15 minutes at a time and it really pulls loose undercoat hair out of Gizmo. I am sure there are other brushes out there that will do it, too, but I like this one.

Grady has two shedding seasons (for his undercoat). It's unbelievably thick and I have to tend to to very often, year round, or it will get out of control. I tried The Furminator, his top coat is long, and it very simply doesn't do as good a job as a double row shedding rake (which is much cheaper).

I laugh at people who think Labradors don't shed a lot... Milo CONSTANTLY sheds his coat! Black hair on light carpets means a lot of vacuuming

My 12 year old Beagle sheds a lot! I think that most dogs that do not need to get their hair cut all the time shed. Hounds and other dogs with hair that doesn't grow longer shed all the time. The best solution for this is to try to brush his coat every day, or at least a few times a week. You'll have to clean that spot, but your dog won't shed as much all over the house.

Yeah I have a lab too and she sheds like crazy! I have to mostly hand strip her though and it's a lot easier. getting her legs done takes a long time but they look so good. Definitly a downfall of owning a lab
