Olive isn't stinky- she's got pretty short fur and gets her fur and teeth brushed every day. I feed her Blue Buffalo puppy formula- chicken & rice. She actually smells really good to me, I love to cuddle up with her and sniff her! :P Then again, I'm one of those girls that loves the smell of horses too. And her little feet smell like corn. The only problem with Olive is her breath is RANK. It was a lot worse when I first got her, we are making progress, but man... worst dog breath ever. I suspect it has something to do with her being a stray for so long, she has some plaque build up too.

I am told that dogs smell because of either 1) the sweat on their feet or 2) dry saliva from licking their fur.

Are these the only causes of the doggy smell? how about the oil on their coat?

My dog smells.

Regular bathing, no bathing, good quality food, frequent brushing... none of that really works. She's been an indoor dog all her life until recently, so it wasn't a matter of her getting dirty.
I'm convinced that people who think their dog doesn't smell are simply used to the smell. Ha.

If my little shih tzu smells at all, I know immediately he has an ear infection. Otherwise, he smells good all the time, as he gets regular groomings, but an ear infection will make him smell really grungy.
