Does your dog smell?

I'm not sure if it's because he's still a puppy (almost 6 months old) or because of his breed (American Eskimo mostly mixed with a tiny bit of Sheltie & corgy) but Hatchi doesn't smell like dog.

Now I may not have the most sensitive nose, but I can smell doggy odor and Hatchi doesn't smell.

My MIL's dog is a yorkie and he has attrocious breath, Hatchi, nothing - not even puppy breath!

He doesn't even smell like a puppy. He almost smells like my bunnies - nothing!

Is this because he's a puppy or maybe he's mixed with Samoyeds who I heard don't smell at all.

Do all dogs smell? I mean he smells like dog when he's wet, but dry...

Some breeds have more odor than others, but I also feel that nutrition has something to do with this. Many dogs with the "doggy" odor tend to be on low quality foods. Mine don't smell, nor my moms dog who is on the same type of food.

Yes, he does. Good breath though. He's on James Wellbeloved turkey and rice kibble and boiled chicken and rice.

Hatchi has a lot of Eskie in him so he's going to be low-odor. All Eskies are this way.

Sam doesn't smell, neither does Jasper. Yay!

I've never met a dog that didn't smell like a dog. I even had a friend with a spaniel that she bathed in expensive designer doggy shampoos and sprayed with designer doggy perfume that smelled just the same as every other dog, with a whiff of flowers in there too.

Dogs smell like dogs. I like the smell, personally. It's not unpleasant to me, not even when they're wet.

That said, when my dog rolled around on some cat poo, THEN he smelled bad!

Mine (a poodle) does smell every once in a while. Depending on what he's been rolling in, and whether he's been rubbing against smelly dogs in the dog park. But a poodle doesn't have the typical dog smell. That, and they don't shed. I guess that's one of the reasons they work so well for allergy sufferers.

hounds=rolling In and eating anything that stinks. They actually don't smell to bad when they manage to stay clean.

I find the mostly shedding breeds are the ones that smell. Mine don't have the doggy smell; in fact, that's the first thing people usually say when they come over. 'You'd never know you have dogs, it doesn't smell doggy here.'

The first dog I adopted was a border collie Samoyed mix (1/2 & 1/2) She went to the groomer every 6 to 8 weeks and did not smell doggie (only when wet)

Now I have a golden I bath her every 2 weeks and take her to the groomer once every month. She smells like dog in about 2 days after her shampoo. It just depends on the dog and breed. The plus side she dries very quickly compared to the collie mix, her grooming although more often is less expensive (less brushing, less drying time and less shedding ) than the collie mix.

If you are not sure what mix you have it could be a breed that has a stronger doggie smell, such as the sporting group.
