I brush my pom's teeth once or twice a day. I experienced terrible dental hygiene with one of my other dogs and ended up having to get several of her teeth pulled from gingivitis. Also, with my pom being a show dog its a pet peeve of mine that her teeth must be brushed at LEAST once a day. It's not like it can hurt, and her teeth are sparkling white. Hopefully they will continue that way throughout her years. As for my other dog, whats left of her teeth are brown and yellow, and at one point before her surgery (teeth pulling) her breath was so bad we couldn't bare to stand five feet from her. She refused to let me go anywhere near her mouth, especially as she got older because of how sore her mouth was.
I use a soft bristle finger brush and Petrodex tooth paste for anyone who was wondering. Teeth brushing is highly recommended, but some dogs can seem to get away without it. I just don't want to take a chance, as I don't want to experience what I did with my other dog. |
