Food isn't the whole picture though Maybe they did keep them at excellent fitness levels (obeisity is going to claim a lot of dogs early-the trend of obese pets is following that of people) and did good vet care vaccines, had good genetics etc And maybe the cheap food is just fine-I think we've talked about kirklands on here-that its a good food thats quite cheap if I recall correctly?

Absolutely NOT fair! I popped popcorn, and everybody had a hug-fest? What kind of forum IS this, anyway?

Oh yeah...it's the best kind, where folks can have intelligent discussion without namecalling and general hooliganism and tomfoolery.

How refreshing...better than Jeep people and Cycling people, that's for sure.

Thats just it...food is not always the whole picture. I am glad you said it like that.

Good genetics are up in the air so I cannot actually stand up for that. The boxer they have has great genetics but cant say much for everyone else.

I should have restated it...not cheap food per-se but "poorly" made food. Kirklands is super cheap and not a bad food, but foods we commonly call "poor" include things like kibbles and bits. My parents feed kibbles and bits lol

You know what even if they have fantastic genes-I mean I work in long term care. There are some pretty fabulous people (good looking, atheletic, ate right, top end of income so weren't deprived nutrionally) struck down with MS in their prime. Genetic problems can crop up and can be recessive, or mutations, and add congenital problems. There's a lot of factors

See I'm the opposite-my parents always fed all kibble-higher end stuff and varied but not much people food, and their last two dogs got cancer (Molly had a tumour around her heart and intestines-and Mandy has a brain tumour)-for me just knowing the preservatives in many dog foods-well that inkled me and made me dive right into dog nutrition so I could do better for Mikey. I can't say that's what caused the cancers-but I can say I'll do everything on my end to keep him healthy and the rest is up to god/genetics/thing I can't control

I'd try to do better next time lol

I hear ya Mikey and I do believe that just like people have different reactions to different things, dogs have different reactions to different foods. That is why my dogs eat higher rated (maybe not the best but better than the "lowest") and Harvick eats a pretty dang "high" quality food due to allergies. I just cannot knock "low quality" foods because of my experience.
