Why?

Why do some many dog food companies put food that is toxic to dogs? Here are some foods that are toxic to animals!
1)Onions:Both onions and garlic contain the ingredient Thiosulphate.Garlic contains smaller amounts of Thiosulphate, you would need to feed your dog huge amounts of garlic, although the poisen builds up in the system so it can be toxic with 1 large dose,or it can build up over time!
2)Chocolate:Chocolate contains Theobromine,a product that is cardiac stimulant and diuretic. This can be fatal to dogs.
3)Grapes:Grapes are dangerous because of an unknown substance which is toxic to dogs - affects canines kidneys!
4)Raisens,see above ^
etc.You can find this information and more toxic foods at 25 Human Foods Toxic To Dogs.

I guess it's a good thing I cut out the grape vines in our back yard. The Saint Bernard was eating them off the vine. He also helps himself to black raspberries and plums back there.

I feed my dogs the occasional grape, they are fine in very random small amounts, our dogs have gotten ahold of avacado which leads to bloat and nobody blew up I dont recommend feeding them this stuff daily for snacks or anything, just sayin...

Anywho I have never heard of dog food companies putting in dangerous foods to their ingredients but if they are maybe you can email them and ask why they use it.

Maybe the way they make the food helps get rid of the bad stuff in it? Much like we cook meat to safely eat it, maybe they process it to make it safe?

Not trying to pick on Wellness. I just switched to it, so I happen to have the ingredient list handy. Tomatoes are supposed to be bad too:

Lamb, Menhaden Fish Meal, Oatmeal, Ground Barley, Ground Brown Rice, Rye Flour, Tomato Pomace, Canola Oil (preserved with mixed tocopherols, a natural source of Vitamin E), Salmon Meal, Rice Bran, Tomatoes, Ground Millet, Natural Lamb Flavor, Ground Flaxseed, Carrots, Spinach, Sweet Potatoes, Apples, Blueberries, Dicalcium Phosphate, Calcium Carbonate, Potassium Chloride, Minerals [Zinc Sulfate, Zinc Proteinate, Iron Proteinate, Ferrous Sulfate, Copper Proteinate, Copper Sulfate, Manganese Proteinate, Manganese Sulfate, Sodium Selenite], Vitamins [Beta-Carotene, Vitamin E Supplement, Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), Vitamin A Supplement, Niacin, Calcium Pantothenate, Riboflavin, Vitamin D-3 Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Thiamine Mononitrate, Folic Acid, Biotin, Vitamin B-12 Supplement], Choline Chloride, Taurine, Mixed Tocopherols (a natural preservative), Glucosamine Hydrochloride, Chondroitin Sulfate, Chicory Root Extract, Garlic, Yucca Schidigera Extract, Green Tea Extract, Dried Lactobacillus plantarum, Enterococcus faecium, Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus acidophilus fermentation products.
This is a naturally preserved product.

I think the quantity is so small that these traces wouldn't have any impact at all on the health of your pet. (IMO)

If I remember correctly tomatoes are fine. Its the stems and leave that are bad for dogs.

But I could be wrong! I haven't really researched this recently.

I just searched the ASPCA Poisen control center for an answer. This is what they said.

"The green parts of the tomato plant are considered toxic because they contain solanine, which has the potential to produce significant gastrointestinal and central nervous system effects. However ripe tomatoes, the part of the plant typically used in food products, are not toxic."

ASPCA | Tomatoes

I know the question on the ASPCA site is really in aked by a cat owner, so if anyone has proof otherwise, specifically for dogs, or even newer info saying otherwise, I certainly would love to see it!!!
