Treat made in China - Quality checked in Canada ?????

In a previous post I asked if I should keep or return some sweet potatoes wrapped in Duck by Vitalife. I was about to get rid of the bag when I noticed that in the upper corner there was a “seal” that indicated that the product was “quality Tested or Quality verified in Canada”. Does this mean that it’s better? Or less bad? Or that it was verified and passed quality testing for Canadian Standards?

I know it’s not a big deal to return the package and get something else but I find it hard to find good treats here in Canada that don’t cost a fortune or aren’t cookies.

Thanks

I would call the company and ask what that entails. I'm honestly not sure exactly what quality tests are done in Canada.

I personally don't give my dogs anything from China. I actually avoid anything from China for me and hubby too.
I would not risk it because you don't know what Canada did to verify and test the quality.
FYI making your own jerky is fairly cheap and easy.

Just a marketing ploy, similar to the Made in US stickers.

The first and most important thing you need to remember but the China Recall is no one knows what made the dogs sick, therefore they can test all they want, but that only means the usual known contaminated will be identified, not what caused the dog to become ill. And treats including chicken, duck, sweet potatoes and dried fruit were all part of the recall.

You can check out the company and current treats still being reported to causes similar illness on the FDA website. I can't remember where I found it, but I'll post it once I do, there was report on which treats/companies had reports filed in 2013, number of reports, pets symptoms...I just try to limit the number to commerical treats my dogs get, and avoid any source that's Asian when I can.

Found it, kinda. This is a complaints log kept by the FDA from Feb to Sept 2013, of reported cases where dogs have become ill from eating treats. I noticed that the 5 first to 6 listed are Vitalife's Duck and Sweet Potatoes Treats.

I have the chewmasters chicken tenders too from Costco, think they'll take those back too - I bought them more than 4 months ago and only used maybe 3 strips (I break them in pencil eraser size pieces to give for training) so a little goes a long way. Too bad cuz these were a fabulous deal for the amount that I got.
