Rotating kibble diet

Just wondering what your thought are on rotating a kibble diet? My friend switches her dogs diet with every empty bag. So she may finish the Benneful bag and then switch the dog to Pedigree. She rotates the foods between 3 brands. I am not responsible for her "good choice" of kibble. She claims she never has problems with her dog switching because his digestive system has made the adjustment. I disagree with her because when I walk him he has his share of loose stool.

I'm going to rotate the kibble I feed Snickers. I bought a 40lb bag of Orijen a few weeks ago, last week I bought a bag of Wellness, and I called on Friday and ordered some free samples of TOTW. I am slowly (1/2 cup more per day) transitioning her to the Wellness and plan to use up the 15lb bag. Then I may either switch her back to the Orijen for a month or so or try TOTW. I think it will be good to have 2 or 3 different foods in her rotation so she stays interested in her food and gets a more balanced diet.

I will switch flavors at the end of bags usually...I also use different brands for treats...

the idea is the dog isn't as likely to become sensitive to one meat ingrediant because you are rotating....

tho my understanding is that beneful and pedigree are the same food in different bags with beneful priced higher.

I, too, switch kibbles with every empty bag. For starting you can try switching flavors and later on you can try switching brands. Food rotation supposes to help your dog get all nutrition.

We switch flavors in the same brand. But if a dog food is very different then another I see a lot of dogs with wet poops (not good) when switching.

*shrugs* in reality it doesn't matter what she is doing or why-if the dog has runny poop he's not doing as well as he could be.

I switch my dogs kibble every few years. I keep the food change in place for no less then 3 months, no longer then 1 year. I put alot of thought into it and carefully research the ingredients. My dogs have to have certain ratios of protien and fat or they just don't do well. For me, the idea is to find a food that has different ingredients, but a similar protien and fat level to whatever they're currently eating. This isn't as easy as it sounds at times!
