Smile Mikey likes his new food

We just brought home Mikey's new food. No real reason to change he was doing well on the old food-good coat, amazing muscles- but this one is higher quality -especially ingredients and he really seems to like it.

So this is his old food
Horizon Pet Nutrition
Puports to only use human grade ingredients but has 'meal' in the ingredients; they have this question and answer page so I asked them why they say it's human grade (There is no fda regulation on using that term) and yet have 'meat meals' which by definition aren't. They never responded-not impressed lol
Ingredients:
Chicken meal, whole grain barley, whole grain oats, chicken, whole grain rye, chicken fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols, source of vitamin E,) pea fibre, flaxseed, egg product, salmon oil (preserved with mixed tocopherols, source of vitamin E), carrots, apples, alfalfa meal, calcium carbonate, broccoli, bok choy, cabbage, blueberries, L-lysine, choline, salt, dicalcium phosphate, fructooligosaccharides, DL-methionine, yucca schidigera extract, glucosamine hydrochloride, chondroitin sulfate, dried aspergillus niger fermentation extract, dried aspergillus oryzae fermentation extract, pineapple, dried trichoderma longibrachiatum fermentation extract, dried rhizopus oryzae fermentation extract, dried enterococcus faecium fermentation product, dried lactobacillus casei fermentation product, dried lactobacillus acidophilus fermentation product, dried bifidobacterium bifidum fermentation product, dried lactobacillus plantarum fermentation product, vitamin A Acetate, vitamin D3 supplement, vitamin E, bitamin B12 supplement, riboflavin, niacin, folic acid, pyridoxine hydrochloride thiamine mononitrate, D-calcium pantothenate, biotin, L-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate (source of vitamin C), ferrous sulphate, iron proteinate, zinc sulphate, zinc proteinate, manganous oxide, maganese proteinate, copper sulphate, copper proteinate, calcium iodate, sodium selenite, magnesium oxide.

It's an OK food but not the best so I wanted to switch. I'm hoping to move to a 100% homemade eventually but right now we do kibble and partial home made food.

Here's our new food: Orijen Pet Foods: Products
Fresh deboned salmon, salmon meal, herring meal, russet potato, fresh deboned lake whitefish, sweet potato, peas, salmon oil (preserved with vitamin E), fresh deboned walleye, fresh deboned herring, sun-cured alfalfa, fresh deboned flounder, fresh deboned lake trout, dehydrated organic kelp, pumpkin, carrots, spinach, turnip greens, apples, cranberries, saskatoon berries, black currants, choline chloride, psyllium, licorice root, angelica root, fenugreek, marigold flowers, sweet fennel, peppermint leaf, chamomile flowers, dandelion, summer savory, rosemary, sea salt, vitamin supplements (vitamin A, vitamin D3, vitamin E, niacin, vitamin C, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin, vitamin B5, vitamin B6, folic acid, biotin, vitamin B12), mineral supplements (zinc proteinate, iron proteinate, manganese proteinate, copper proteinate, selenium), dried Lactobacillus acidophilus product, dried Enterococcus faecium fermentation product.

All and all I like it better. Mikey's digging in right now. We'll see how he does on it

Thats good. I always get nervous now when switching foods...

When I switched Kelsey from Royal Canine to Blue Buffalo (once I was givng her 1/2 and 1/2) she would pick the royal canine out and just eat the Blue Buffalo LoL

The old one was around 40$ for a big bag-this one was 70$ but if it's good, it's good

Orijen is a well respected good food in the pet industry. But I'm hearing that it's becoming increasingly difficult for the pet stores to get to stock for their customers. So be advised that you might not want to get too low before you start looking for it....in case it's not to be found.

Horizon is supposed to be human grade but if you look at the ingredients ('meals') it's not. (It's not an FDA regulated term and I could put 'human grade' on poop and sell it if I want)=Horizon legacy is OK (grain free) but the main food by horizon it not good=same old same old-fillers and junk and by products.
