I think it's situational-what works for you and the dog. I prefer freefeeding because
1) My schedule changes
2) I feel dogs eat mor appropritate amounts when they can eat when they want to
3) I want my dog to have choice and feel free
4) It works-he doesn't overeat -in fact many people comment on how fit and 'cut' he is
There are certain dogs you'll never free feed, and if you have serveral it just may not work out. But for me and my dogs it always has and I like knowing he can eat whenever he is hungry.
I also feel -say your on a diet becuase you have a condition or something-and your not allowed chocolate. Well I think you'd think about chocolate a lot-and if there was any there you'd eat it. Whereas if you can buy and eat chocolate whenever you want, as much as you want, you would exhibit self control and eat a moderate amount. That's just my thought though

I've not met an obese freefed dog-just obese scheduled dogs-and that's why I think feeding a certain amount only will encourage them to eat the whole amount (so if you are feeding too much-they will eat the whole thing-whereas if you freefeed thay'll eat what they need).
