Another trick-as long as the dog is not fat-you can pour some bacon fat on the food. Not often-maybe a little once a week-but it's absolutely wonderful for the coat

Do a search by prebiotics or beet pulp - I am sure I read somewhere in my recent research that it is a source of prebiotics which is good.

I did a quick search on beet pulp:

Im so glad to hear of a vet actually recomending good food. I would go with what the vet says.

As for dry skin. If you switch to a good food, such as what the vet suggested. you shouldnt have a problem at all with dry skin. You can alwso add in fish oils.. I feed RAW so I add in fish oils every day (aside from days when he gets fish, which is a few times a week) he has a great coat. Kinda dry now, but so is every one due to the heat in the house, and he lays on the darn vents, crazy dog. Youd think he was hot enough in his coat lol

LOL we have a kerosene heater and my moms toy poodle likes to lay right next to it. LOL The vet did not recommend the food I am going by what I have read on here as far as the food I am going to switch him to. She recommended putting the oil in his food to help the dry skin.
Thanks everyone for the help.
