Lassie Natural Way dog food ingredients?

This is a brand that is carried at our local grocery store and I thought the ingredients looked good. They have two flavors what do you guys think? And would you prefer one flavor over the other?

Don't like it at all -sorry!

First ingredient is a meat meal-which by definition is food not fit for human consumption. If it's not fit for me it's not fit for my dog.
Look for foods with no 'meal' -so no chicken meal, beef meal bone meal-nothing meal.

Also absolutely full of cheap fillers-rice and beets.

Look for a food with no 'meals' in the ingredients and no cheap fillers (rice, corn, beet). In general the grocery store does not carry good foods

Oh I see I did not know what the Meal meant. LOL I thought Iread somewhere that beet pulp and rice were good for dogs, I must have read it wrong. It has been a long time since I have researched dog foods. LOL

The place I got him from was giving him kibble and bits mixed with science diet. He has some dry skin and I am trying to find him a good food to help with that.

Its better then kibbles and bits. But any food you can find in a grocery store is going to be junk.

What types of pet stores do you have around?

beat and rice are fine-but they are really fillers
Meat meal or bone meal can be cow that died of anything and has been dead for weeks, it can be animals who were put to sleep. By definition it's not fit for human consumption.
Any meat-listed just as meat-is human grade.

That's true

No studies needed-it's just food definitions-check out
U S Food and Drug Administration Home Page
and
AAFCO Home Page

As these are the two bodies that govern what can and can't go in animal feed-and what the labels can and cannot say. Noteworthy that although organic is now a controlled term (meaning you can't slap it on anything) it's not controlled in animal feed-neither is 'natural' so if a company is slapping natural organic it can be just hype.

I hope not!! Those levels are the minimum required by AFFCO meaning they cannot be sold with lower levels (talking just the protein/fat min levels)

The foods I really like best are (and I'm not a veterinary nutrionist or anything But I have been doing lots of research for almost a year now ) I feed Orijen but I like these other foods as well based on their ingredients.

Basically: Avoid grocery store or no name dog food; and ensure there are no meat meals-or at LEAST does not have meat meal as the first ingredient.

Orijen 6 Fish Dog Ingredients Check out those ingredients And protein is much higher then minimum requirements

Taste of the wild
Taste of the Wild : Products : Dogs : High Prairie Canine Formula

Blue Buffalo
BLUE Buffalo Wilderness - Natural Evolutionary Duck Diet for Dogs – Grain Free

Wellness
WELLNESS® - Healthy Dog and Cat Food

Also if your dog has dry skin-could be allergies or just not enough oil- try giving some oily fish-like salmon twice a week. Tins of salmon are cheap-they are healthy as all can be (no other ingredients, no preservatives) and totally easy to feed.

Ok I know I can get Blue Buffalo, or Taste of the Wild the vet recommended that I put a table spoon of corn oil in his food to help with the dry skin but I think the salmon idea might be better for him. What do you think?
