How much food to feed my baby?? :)

This is a discussion on How much food to feed my baby?? :) within the Dog Food forums, part of the Keeping and Caring for Dogs category; I too would get a much better food. Normally anything you can find at the grocery store/walmart is junk....

Well, for the first few days you should stick to what the breeder's been feeding him, but after a while you can slowly switch him over to a new food. For example the first day that you start switching, have 10% of the new food and the rest of the old, and a few days later increase the new food to 20% and so on until he's eating 100% new food.

There's many reason's they could be feeding something, and if it works for Loekin, by all means continue. It's just that there's many people who feed corn based food for much of their dog's life and once they switch they notice a huge improvement.

well, I will keep him on this for awhile since he will be so young when I get him and that's what the breeder told me to get, and after a bag of the Purina Puppy Chow, Ill probably switch him to something else.

Thanks for the help guys

just remember to switch before you run out of the food he is currently on... sudden diet changes can upset the dog's digestive system... as Sendy suggested you want to do so slowly

I agree with others that you should switch to a better food after you have had him for a bit. Make sure you do it slowly. I switched Kimber cold turkey because I didn't know any better and he had an upset tummy for a while poor thing. Both of my dogs are on Blue Buffalo which I get at PetSmart.

I can't wait until you bring him home I can't imagine how excited you must be getting!!
