How much food to feed my baby?? :)

Hi, So, I noticed I didn't exactly find out how much food to feed little Loekin yet. How did I miss this question!!?!!??
Anyways,
You all know, he is a Siberian Husky/Pitbull mix so he is a medium to large breed puppy.
How much of puppy chow do I feed him, and how many times a day do I feed him that amount????

Thanks!!!!!

Well first up-it has to be puppy food (large breed puppy food is better still).

And amount I can't help you with. We've always free fed-so left a big heeping bowl of food for the dog to eat when and how he feels he should. You might be able to do this. Personally I feel it's easiest in terms of no measuring no worrying, and no gobbling food up like theres no tomorrow.
Drawbacks -getting fat (not as a puppy, chubby puppy is fine), mulitple dogs, and potty training (it's easier to have planned meals and planned potty times.

So I'm not much help on amount. You MUST give three meals a day to a puppy, you can cut to one or two with a dog but they must have three while growing. And amount should be indicated on the dog food bag.

Have you figured what brand of dog food you are going to feed? Might I suggest Orjien

The breeder told me to get high protein Purina Puppy Chow. It has 27% protein.
Its a new kind Purina came out with...

Thanks for what advise you gave, I will wait around and see what others have to say!

Whatever the breeder is feeding-start with that-sudden changes equal upset tummies. Orijen is higher in protein (41% I think) and a really awesome awesome food. But start with what the breeder is feeding for sure.

When we brought Mikey home I asked what he was on and could we buy a bag from the shelter (some shelters sell food to raise funds) they kindly gave me a small bag of what he was on to transition over-a mixed bag of whatever was donated was what they fed

Is feeding my puppy 1/2 cup 3 x daily enough?
I read that for a medium bred puppy that is the amount they need.
But then I ready that a medium puppy need 1 1/2-2 cups 3 x daily.

Those 2 amounts are VERY different from each other. I don't want to under feed the puppy but I dont want to over feed him either..

Anyone know how much I need to feed him?

it will depend on the brand/type of food... for example... when i got my dog he weighed 43lbs and was eating pedigree... i can't remember exactly, but the pedigree suggested 4-5 cups of food per day for him he now weighs 95lbs and i am feeding kirklands... kirklands recommends about the same amount of food per day for his current weight...

I would follow what others said, find a higher quality large-breed puppy food, and because each food contains different ingredients in different amounts, reading the serving suggestion on the bag will be the best way to find out how much you should feed your puppy. Normally it goes by daily serving. You can split the serving into 2-3 portions and give your puppy one portion at a time throughout the day.

I will be feeding Walmart.com: Purina Puppy Chow: Healthy Morsels Soft & Crunchy Bites Puppy Food, 34 lb: Dogs
Im getting it from Super Walmart. The link above tells about it.
The bag says for a medium breed puppies, I need to feed between 1 1/3 - 5 cups a day! That doesn't help at all! Thats a huge range in between the two amounts.

I cant find anywhere on the internet about how much to feed a puppy a day.

I am getting frustrated

Just to add, I'd really suggest trying a different food. The first two ingredients are corn, all the meat is unnamed(isn't specific, ex. Animal, instead of Lamb or whatever and just Meat unidentified, might contain euthanised pets and horses) except for one which is chicken by-products(by-products are unfit for human consumption). By feeding a higher quality food you don't have to feed as much, therefor making up for the higher cost.

Take a look around Dog Food Analysis. I think this is the same food that you linked.
Though the most important thing is that Loekin does good on a food. Some dogs are just special. But really, 5 cups for a puppy? If a 95lbs dog and an 8 week old puppy are eating the same amount, I think that's just a bit of a red flag.
