Fads come and go, I work for a vet tech who has been in the practice for more then most of us have been alive. Slapping "holistic" on a bag is for this new "all natural" fad. Whats REALLY funny, is the core meaning of holistic, to those truly "holistic" means no antibiotics, vaccines, or anything unnatural. I mean, there are different levels lol, if you want to go crazy we can get into raw food being holistic.

However, its what YOU think is holistic, or what your "level" is, IE I feed my dog a non-holistic food (the rejected shipment trucks go to human food mills...) yet I dont go crazy on vaxs, worming, flea control, etc., and choose organic treats and vitamins for him.

I hope that made sense? I am so tired. long day at work =(

Edit: As for judging about others on their foods, I am the first to tell you not to ever feed pedigree/costco/etc, and the first to admit my old dog was on Costco for most of his life. I will also be the first to admit, my dog had a very strange paralysis at the end of his life, that I truly chalk up to food choices I had made for him.

I like fried chicken to much to be holistic. There is just something about a greasy Chemical fill breast to munch on.

yum, fried chicken, yep. i don't think being holistic is for me either. I guess if choosing between being as close to 100% naturalistic and organic and holistic as possible, and eating greasy yummy food I'd rather be slightly "unhealthier" (and I am not in any way unhealthy) and choose the latter. :P

i can not. as i said before i dont feed holistic, and i never said it was important to feed it. but i do think its important to understand what it is before you decide its a fad or whatever else you may call it. scenthound provided good information. holisim is not a fad. its a way people live.

i wasnt being snarky. i was dropping it because the person obviously walked into it thinking holistic just means nothing to them, so there was no point in explaining it to death.

Anything can be turned into a fad. I live my life as "holistic" as possible, as do my dogs and horses. However, in the short year I have been working in the pet industry, I have noticed this huge boom this year of concern for a natural or holistic food. I have more people then ever coming and trying to sell us these "holistic" or "organic" foods. I have more and more customers steering towards Planet Dog or West Paw products.

There is a growing concern from PET owners to be more "holistic" and natural, however I doubt it will last and the new next thing will come along. It always does in the pet world. Anyone have horses? Seminole feeds is gaining popularity outside of the south now.

Me neither, except from southern friends, except for my New England friends just started switching to it. Next thing, it will be here (CA) just like PennField or whatever it is.

TY for your explanation on holistic, thats pretty much what I thought.

As for judging I dont think anybody should be judged for feeding their dogs certain foods, rather made aware of what else is out there and leave it at that. I dont think dogs should be on vegetarian diets but to each their own, mine just wont be on it lol
