Fussy Eater

Hi, Im having a bit of a problem with making sure my dog, Jasper, has a healthy balanced diet.

We got him from a young single mum when he was 4.5 months old and immediatley noticed he went mad when the microwave bell went, so I think she gave him a lot of what the kids were eating, burgers, chips ect.
I have tried tinned food, packet food and every kind of dry mix from the most expensive to the cheapest and he just turns his nose up at it.

The only way I can get him to eat any dry food is to melt cheese over it! and even then he wont eat it all.

He doesnt like food with any gravy on it either.

I read an article that said you should give your dog some raw meat so tried him with raw minced beef which he wolfed down but I dont think its good for him to have too much of this, also he gets fed up of the same thing so if he gets chicken for a couple of days he turns his nose up the next day!

Any ideas, advice would be much appreciated.

PS. He loves Frosties! I think he used to steal them from the kids!!

The past owner might have taught him to go out to potty by ringing a bell.
If you want to make his diet home cooked find a site or book that will tell you how to do it right. There is nothing wrong with raw if its done right.

If you plan on feeding raw you should consult a pet nutritionist/vet. How long are you giving him to start eating a food? You need to stop giving him table scraps completely. Put food down for him if he does not eat pick it up. Try again in an hour or so and keep doing it until he eats. What dog foods have you tried?

Hi, I have tried him on every tinned food, a lot of dry food such as IAMS, Science diet, Bakers, Pedigree, I just kept picking a different one at the pet shop if he wouldnt eat the last one.

He doesn't get table scraps, all the meat ect he gets is either cooked for him or given raw.

The bell def wasnt for him to go potty as unfortunatley his last owner kept him in a cage for 12 - 13 hours at a time and when I got him he was far from house trained, but he's doing fine now.

Thanks for your suggestion re: proper diet, Im going to trawl the internet and will pop into the vets when I take him out next as we pass that way anyway.

Cheers

Thanks for all advice, I actually got him to eat some dry complete food today, have checked out a lot of info on internet so have a much better idea of a balanced diet. He will be getting a mix. Checked with vet when I had him in to be weighed yesterday ( and to get a tick remover as he had one on his chest Yeuch!) and she reassured me he is fit and healthy on what he is getting, so thats a relief.
Cheers all xx
