Adult Innova Red Meat Bites

after trying EVERYTHING from iams, eukanuba, blue buffalo, c. natural to innova, this is the one food i have that finally allows my 5 month golden to have consistent firm stools.

i've read on dogfoodanalysis.com that meat doesn't make up a substantial amount of this food, but it does contain great grains.

i normally would not consider switching when NOTHING is wrong (well, aside from a little extra eye-gunk ) but the dog food is also more expensive than the c. natural i was buying, so i'm considering trying lamb/rice.

does anyone know anything about innova adult formula? i would like to stay with the natura products.

Innova:

Ingredients:

c. nat:

What turns me off the 'c nat' is the 'meal' -if it says 'lamb' that's human grade if it says 'lamb meal' that could be an animal that was euthanized or has been dead for weeks of unknown cause going into the food. I haven't found a kibble with no 'meal' but the FIRST ingredient is meal so that makes me think junk.

The first one you posted, the first ingredient is a real meat-so I like it better.

That being said-it doesnt' matter if it's a good food, or it's made of cardboard-if your dog is doing well on it-with a happy tummy, good poops, good coat then it just doesn't matter. It works for your dog-so that's perfect

my dog also eats my min-pins poop, rocks, and dead lizards. that also works for her, but not me.

i'm just curious because her eye gunk has been kinda ridiculous lately. i don't know if it's from the cold (probably), but i'm suspicious. she was weened onto c. natural before so it would be hard to change.

I doubt the food has anything to do with eye gook If it's both eyes it's likely an infection-if it's one it could be an infection or just a local irritant

it's not excessive nor a abnormal color so it's probably no big deal. it started coming with the cold weather so i'm gonna stick it to that for now. she doesn't wipe/itch them or anything.

i hope.

Dog's do get 'sleep' in their eyes-Mikey has little crusties in the corners everyday. But that's normal for him. Changes-like if he had more or less-would be concerning. So totally depends on if this is a change-which it sounds like it is-then keep a close eye on it-no pun intended.

Mikey had excessive junk in the corner for a day or so-and guess what it was?? He had a seed pod stuck in the corner of his eye (like we often get an eyelash in our eye) -so maybe take a close look with a flashlight tonight when you get home? Just a thought

of course i don't allow this. it was a puppy phase. most retrieving dogs eat poop, whether it's theirs or another's, as a puppy.

we feed them both pineapple and it stopped a while ago. i was just being sarcastic.

Not sure about this with the Innova, but the Nature's Variety that I feed also includes "MEAL" and it doesn't appear to be a bad thing..I might be wrong, but here's what it says about their "MEAL" products.
"Beef meal is high quality beef muscle (skeletal and cardiac) with the moisture removed. Beef meal provides the essential amino acids for nourishing muscles and bones. Our high-quality beef meal is antibiotic-free, contains no added growth hormones, and provides high levels of iron and zinc to support a healthy immune system. High quality, protein specific meals are simply a dried and more concentrated form of the meat, poultry or fish protein. It is important to make sure the meal is protein specific (Beef Meal, Lamb Meal), and not generic like Meat Meal or By-Product Meal which by definition can contain any species of animal."
