I wouldn't put my dog in dog clothes, however, dog coats are different=) Beause they are for a specific reason not for fashion.
Pickles wears a reflective waterproof coat on walks

It snowed 14 inches here the other day, and we went out and walked in the crappy gooshy mess.. I kept waiting for them to act cold, or shiver, but they never did..We didn't stay out very long, but I was thinking that those little doggie shoes would have been totally HANDY! On a side note, I always said that I would "NEver dress up my dogs"..but then when I saw how happy the little Old ladies got when Payslee was in a Polka dot dress, I became "That guy" that dresses up the shih-tzu.. lol..

When Star was little he did wear a sweater in the winter as he was always cold. Now if I get a sweater out... POOF.. Star has disappeared!! When he goes for a walk when it is cold out (when you can get him out the door other than potty) he wears a coat.

Clyde LOVES his coat he knows as soon as he hears the slightest sound it makes its time to go for a walk.

Sassy pouts if the boys get anything on and she doesnt. So we have an old tee-shirt I resewed for her when she is pouting. She prances around with that thing on. She dont like to keep it on long but she likes dress up I guess.

Have to say -it's just not an option-Mikey has his sweater, jacket WE went to the park today for about-umn twelve minutes-WITH a sweater on-he was shaking
Waiting on booties. Dave's sis is supposed to be making them-she's great I'm sure they will be wonderful but even though we are fam-we are paying-she should hurry them up! :P

Plus-same as brushing teeth-if you teach it correctly and make a big fuss-then they not only don't mind but like wearing clothes

i put a coat on bella my yorkshire terrier because yorkies only have thin furs so they get a lot colder than other dogs when they go out for walks its kinda like us taking our children out in winter with just a jumper on. but if bella shown any signs of discomfort i would take it off straight away because i find forcing a dog to wear clothes is cruel x

I think dog coats are absolutely fine especially for short haired dogs but putting dogs in 'clothes' takes away their dignity and I think is highly embarrasing for them!
