As far as I'm concerned, you should be. Especially if you keep his hair cut. Short haired dogs DO get cold.

I have a Sheltie with extremely thin hair and no undercoat on his back and sides. He gets a coat on when he goes out. I have a Sheltie mix that has plenty of hair but he tends to get cold quickly for some reason so he gets a coat on when he goes outside.

Our little foster Sheltie has more hair than Carter has liver pills but she loves to have her coat on especially if it's raining or snowing.

I would say it depends on the dog breed and the length of time spent outside!

Yeah, if they are cold then go for it..I've got Shih-tzu's, and I don't put coats on them..Sawyer is cut in a bear cut, and Payslee has a full coat, but honestly, they have just never needed a coat. I mean they are little fur mobiles, and we walk/rollerblade over a mile a day..normally they are hot, & tired by the end of the walk, and I just never saw a need for a coat, but if your baby seems to be bothered by the weather, then a coat would be a great solution...and maybe even some booties. I've had many friends whose babes have sensitive feet to the cold, and they put little shoes on them when it snows/ices..

What's the temp? What's the breed?

It all depends. It gets cold as all heck here-but many dogs don't need coats. And many do.

And tbh even if 15c is as cold as it gets if the dog is cold-he needs a coat.

So is your dog shivering? Shivering is a last ditch effort to save body temperature. Basically when a wild animals shivers-they are done. Obviously not the case with our furry friends as they can come inside but you need to realize shivering is serious.

SO if the dog is shivering-definitely needs a coat. And possibly booties-look for your dog holdilng up his paws.

None of this has to be expensive. Dog clothes are cheap now=and even cheaper is finding a sweater in your closer and making a few stitches to make it a bit smaller (and if you have a boy dog-trimming it so it does not get peed one) and voila

Although I think dogs look adorable when they have their own coats, the necessity of having one really depends on what kind of dog you have and where you live. If you live in an area that gets pretty cold and your pup has really short or thin hair, then yes I think it would be a good idea to get him a coat. Especially if the two of you spend a lot of time outside in the winter.

My Pharaoh has a coat when it's cold and my little silky x has one as his coat is becoming very thin.

Where did you find a Nomex coat for a dog???

I have one for me rated for fifty below-love it (makes me able to go to the dogpark)

I had no idea they made them for dogs-do you have a link? I'd love a light Nomex jacket for camping too since he always sits too close to the firepit!!
