against buying a Designer Breed(Such as a Cockapoo) from a breeder?

I'm just curious because that is one of the breeds we have considered.

there are so many homeless dogs out in the world... a designer "breed" really isn't a breed. the person breeding those dogs is doing so for money, not necessarily evil, but makes it unlikely that they are breeding dogs that will contribute much more than being pets to the world, i LOVE pets, and i LOVE dogs, but so many are euthed every year bc they are homeless, there doesn't need to be more mutts being bred... not to mention the fact that it is unlikely they are doing any of the appropriate health tests, nor trying to achieve anything as far as conformation is concerned... again, not evil, but really they shouldn't be breeding...
sorry, this wasn't well worded, but i hope i made some sense...

yes. you did make sense. we did consider getting purebreds like shih-tzus or pomeranians. but we also did think about getting like a Cock-a-poo because i had a poochon(bichon/poodle) as a teenager.

i'm not suggesting a purebred dog... i'm suggesting not giving money to someone who is deliberately breeding mixes if you are going to pay someone for a dog, i would suggest getting your $$$ worth by doing so with a reputable breeder (you will not find a reputable breeder who is breeding mutts on purpose )

If you want cocker spaniel or poodle mix why not check out the shelters and also rescues??? You can also go to petfinder.com and do a search.
If you adopt you are not just saving 1 dog... you are actually saving 2 (the dog you adopt and the dog that takes is place in the rescue or shelter!)

Like Fawkese said, there are so many wonderful dogs in shelters. With so many being euthanized, no one should be breeding more mutts. Not to mention the prices these breeders ask for are outrageous!!!

Oh that little guy is super cute!

Here are just a few rescues you may want to look at. They may not have exactly what you want right now... but they do have some real cute dogs. It doesn't hurt to look. You never know who will catch your eye!

I'd never get a dog from a breeder myself, but I don't judge others who do. I DO have a problem with people not checking out their puppy's parent's and confirming that they are not giving business to a puppy mill. With so many dogs needed homes in shelters, I'd rather get a rescued dog. I wanted a fancy puppy hybrid, but I just looked for a dog resembling one at the rescue organizations websites. I wanted a chiweenie, and I found one in need of a home. It doesn't need AKC papers, it's 100% dog. Still I enjoy watching the dog shows on tv, and they are not possible without the AKC and their standards.

rescued purebred greyhound and rescued mutt that I call a "designer chiweenie"
costs less, feels better!

p.s. I don't see anything wrong with the hybrids. My friends have a puggle, who came from a reputable breeder.

Like Ava I don't judge people who get dogs from breeders as long as they make sure they are not dealing with a puppy mill. Still, there are so many homeless dogs of every sort I would prefer looking for a rescue whether I was looking for a purebred or a "designer dog."

By the way, I had a cockapoo when I was growing up, way before there was such a thing as a "designer dog." Back then she was just considered an "oops" when a neighbor's poodle got out while in heat. I had her for 14 years and she was a great dog. Hope you find what you're looking for.
